We are proud to share the results of our international Nordplus project “Experiential Education in Kindergarten” (NPJR-2024/10044), developed together with preschool institutions from Lithuania, Iceland, and Norway.
Over the past two years, we worked together to explore a simple but powerful idea: young children learn best by actively exploring, experiencing, creating and reflecting.
The main aim of the project was to strengthen the quality of preschool education by promoting experiential learning, outdoor pedagogy and eco-friendly activities in kindergartens. The project focused on children aged 1-5, preschool teachers and other pedagogical staff. With international collaboration, we exchanged practical experiences, shared good practices from our countries and explored how everyday kindergarten activities can become more active, creative and connected with nature.
Together, we created a practical methodology for everyday kindergarten activities. The methodology is designed to support teachers in organizing hands-on activities that encourage children’s curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, social skills and awareness of the natural environment.
We invite you to review the methodology document:
The project also helped teachers gain new ideas and strengthen their professional competences. By learning from different Nordic and Baltic preschool contexts, teachers were able to see new ways of using outdoor spaces, natural materials, sensory activities, play, observation and exploration in daily kindergarten work.
The project addressed an important need in early childhood education: to make learning more meaningful, child-centered and connected to real-life experiences.
The project results are particularly useful for:
preschool and kindergarten teachers,
early childhood education specialists,
school and kindergarten communities,
parents and caregivers,
organizations interested in outdoor learning, sustainability and experiential education.
We invite educators, parents and those working with young children to explore the developed methodology, use it in everyday activities and adapt ideas to their own children, groups and environments. You do not need special equipment - just curiosity, time, and a willingness to explore with children.
With this project we hope to continue encouraging more active, nature-based and sustainable learning in kindergartens, contributing to a greener, more creative and more cooperative Nordic-Baltic education community.
